3D LETTER

3D Letter

Our failings during this task came from the overcomplicating of ideas. Unfortunately, the finished letter just didn't reflect the effort put in and the experimentation.
To begin with, the group had all these ideas of creating a letter that hung from inside of a box, that had an appealing background. As the box wasn't massive, it all got a bit tricky and all the pieces were pretty intricate. We had troubles with where we were going to tie the string, and how exactly it should be tied. New ideas soon started popping into our head and there were plans to cut slits into the side of the box in order to hold strips of card of different shapes and sizes to form an F. Of course, this failed. The strips couldn't hold themselves up, and the box began to rip.
It wasn't till the end when we decided to do what we should have done in the first place. We cut each separate piece out, using tabs to hold each piece up. If we'd done the simple idea well in the first place, we could have come out with something that could have worked, but instead we overcomplicated things in order to create something a bit different.
Although it isn't awful, we were left with very little time at the end, and the group was starting to stress.  If we were to do this again, there's no doubt that we could have made a much better job of it. However, this is not to say that it hasn't completely worked, as through the view finder it was still obvious what the letter form was meant to be. With a bit more time, precision and neatness, the idea would be effective.
