ISTD - development - choosing a typeface

After my feedback, I began designing my individual lookbooks, using research into the bloggers to aid the aesthetics. Each book was to contain ten pages, or ten 'things'.

To begin with, I wanted to look into possible typefaces. In order to pick an appropriate one, I looked at a range used by my chosen bloggers.

Each blogger seemed to differ when it came to choosing typefaces, however, what I did find is that the majority experimented with what they were using, mixing serif, sans-serif and hand written type. Being creative individuals, it is no surprise that they aware of what works and what doesn't.

My chosen typeface must work across all bloggers, therefore it needs to be simple, clean cut and bold. I plan on working with a sans-serif typeface and contrasting it with a handwritten type to express the creative nature of the subject matter.

Chosen typefaces - Futura and Highland Perk

In condensed extrabold, Futura works extremely well when used as headers or on title pages. It is a very bold, stand-out typeface, working well with handwritten type. The two compliment each other due to Futura's simplicity, allowing for increased readability.
Highland Perk is a handwritten typeface that isn't too busy, and will be effective when needed for quotes or shorter pieces of text. It is appropriate to it's content and the subject matter.
